Spy Island Industries! Coming soon

Welcome to Spy Island!

Hi folks! This is Rich Wentworth, founder of Spy Island Industries. Spy Island is the umbrella for a variety of my creative pursuits, and his site is intended to be a way for you to check out these different facets of my work. Here, you’ll be able to peruse some samples of my visual art, as well as my voice acting and voiceover work, along with some examples of my writing and music.

In the meantime, here’s a little bit about me. Enjoy!

The cover artwork I drew for for 1997’s The Dirty Boogie. This was a fun gig, and lead to more album cover work.

I’ve been illustrating and designing professionally for over 20 years, having had my “big break” in 1997 with the cover art for The Brian Setzer Orchestra’s Grammy award winning “The Dirty Boogie”. Since then, I’ve done numerous posters, album covers, and even comic book covers for clients such as IDW, Interscope, Omega Girl Inc., BOOM! Studios, and more.

Voice acting and voiceover

A sample of my character voice work.

As a voice artist, I have been working professionally for just under 10 years. For over 5 years I was the official announcer for the AfterbuzzTV podcast network. I recently provided the voice of the animated host for the 59th Annual Hatch Awards with the Black Math agency for Ad Club of Boston. I’ve performed a range of character voices for audio dramas and podcasts such as my own award winning creator-owned show Hadron Gospel Hour, The Penumbra Podcast, The PJ Library’s Have I Got A Story For You, and many more.

I loved voicing the animated intro for the 59th Hatch Awards for Ad Club of Boston

In addition, I’ve also done educational voiceovers, tutorial narration for patent law tutorials, and commercials for clients like Maria Menounos and Yamaha USA. Clients find me easy to work with, very easy to direct, and able to turn in top quality work at an efficient pace.

Writing and producing audio drama

With the cast and crew of Hadron Gospel Hour

I’m very proud of my work on Hadron Gospel Hour, a science fiction audio comedy/adventure series that I created in 2013 and write and produce in partnership with Michael McQuilkin.

Accepting the Geekie Award for Best Podcast in Los Angeles, 2015

The show has been downloaded over a million times and has won several awards including Best Podcast at the 2015 Geekie Awards, and Parsec awards for best Speculative Fiction audio drama and Best Podcast. Michael and I are currently on hiatus, but plan to return for a third season of the show in 2020.

DJing and playlist curation

I enjoy spinning records, everything from 50s easy listening and Exotica to 60s mod and freakbeat, all the way to 70s glam and punk, 80s 90s and 00s pop and indie

Alongside these ventures, I do occasional vinyl DJ gigs. I had a 60s mod/freak beat night with DJ Vinny called Pandora’s Box, and have done DJ gigs at BitBar in Salem MA, Once Lounge, Redbones, and High Energy Vintage in Somerville and UnchARTed in Lowell.

DJing in Salem MA during Halloween is amazing!

Recently I’ve been resident DJ at Mill No. 5 for their A Little Bazaar market series, and I DJed for The Creative Collective during their Haunted Happenings outdoor movie nights during Halloween in Salem, MA. If you’re interested in grooving to something that’s a bit off the beaten path, reach out. I’m available for bookings.

Silk screened Don Knotts tee

I’ve been teaching myself silk screen printing recently, creating original t-shirts, prints and patches, some of which are currently available in my Etsy shop.
